About me

Jobert Ngwenya is an award-winning high school educator who holds a Master of Arts in Development Studies (MSU), Bachelor of Arts (Econimic History, History, War & Strategic Studies (UZ) and Post Graduate Diploma in Education (ZOU). He is currently studying towards a Master of Arts in Learning, Education & Technology with the University of Oulu, Finland. He is a Fulbright Teaching Excellence & Achievement Fellow (United States of America), National Geographic Education Award, Integrity Icon People’s Choice awards, among other student awards stemming from his mentorship as an entrepreneurship educator. Jobert Ngwenya is also a published author for Advanced Level Economic History textbook.

    Responsible for creating and delivering educational activities for high school learners specialising in History, Economic History and Heritage Studies. As Head of Department for History, I lead and manage a team of history teachers, ensuring that the department achieves academic excellence through effective teaching and learning strategies. I also plan and implement the history curriculum and assess students’ academic performance.

    As a chaperone for the school’s entrepreneurial club, I work with students to develop entrepreneurial skills, including financial literacy, marketing, and business management. I oversee the club’s activities, encourage participation, and provide mentorship and guidance to help students achieve their goals.

    Integrity Icon People's Choice Award

    Integrity Icon is a national campaign to name and fame honest government officials. A lack of integrity – which leads to corruption, inequality and insecurity – is a global challenge. Ordinary citizens often feel helpless in the face of graft and mismanagement. There is a need to encourage champions of integrity, which ultimately builds public trust. We ‘name and fame’ public servants who display exemplary integrity and make heroes out of ordinary people doing the right thing. Nominate excellent public servants and help us shine a light on the role of ordinary people in strengthening institutions.

    Ciena Solutions Challenge Sustainability Award

    The Ciena Solutions Challenge is a design challenge inviting middle and high school students globally to design solutions that address the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals in their communities. Educators around the world may register now for the Challenge, and beginning on September 15, educators may apply for a $2,500 USD Sustainability Award to sustain and scale students’ projects. Educators and students will also receive mentoring, professional learning, and showcase opportunities throughout the Challenge.

    Fulbright Teaching Excellence & Achievement Fellowship

    The Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (Fulbright TEA) brings international, secondary-level teachers to the United States for a six-week program. Teachers take academic seminars for professional development at a host university. They observe classrooms and share their expertise with teachers and students at the host university and at local secondary schools. The goals of the program are to 1. promote mutual understanding among teachers, their schools, and communities in the United States and abroad by building teachers’ and students’ global competence, and by sharing teaching best practices internationally. 2. To provide in-service professional development to enhance teachers’ expertise in their disciplines and equip them with a deeper understanding of best practices in education.

    The fund was distributed to support individual educators (or to an individual educator working in collaboration with other educators or National Geographic Explorers) to design instructional resources that help educators effectively teach in in-person, remote, or hybrid learning environments during the pandemic. Priority for this opportunity will be given to educators working in communities that have been particularly hard hit by the pandemic, and who have not previously received National Geographic funding.
